About AuScience

AuScience is established as a Not-for-profit Association running science competitions for students from grade 10 to 12 in Physics and Science that can lead to representing Australia in international competition.

AuScience is run by teachers and interested others.

The purpose of organising tournaments like the IYPT Australia Challenge, JYPT and IJSO is to give Australian students the change to develop scientific thinking, research skills, communication skills and teamwork. and to measure themselves against their peersfrom around the world in international competition.

Australia first attended the International Young Physicists' Tournament in 1998 when a team from Brisbane Girls Grammar School (BGGS) entered.

In subsequent years, the school developed a qualifying tournament to promote the event to other schools in Australia.

In 2008 a joint team of students from Brisbane Girls Grammar School and All Saints Anglican School (ASAS) represented Australia at the 5th International Junior Science Olympiad. It was decided that an independent association was needed to run the IYPT qualifying event with BGGS contining to host the qualifying competition. The association was founded to run both IYPT and IJSO and possible future competitions.

This led to the forming of AuScience.
