Information
Why enter IYPT?
Students need to develop confidence and self belief to excel in physics. Many good students do not feel confident in their ability. I work in a girls school and this is especially a problem.
>IYPT is a unique educational experience!
IYPT gives a chance for a student to measure their understanding against the world. I am great supporter of the Physics Olympiad and value the stretching in academic context provides, but physics students also need creativity and IYPT encourages creativity and authentic research!
If you are looking to improve physics education in your school or your country - IYPT is the way!
Kathryn Zealand arrived at my school at the start of Year 10. A gifted student looking for enrichment. In her first few weeks she showed that given he flexibility of IYPT as a challenge she could excel! After a few weeks, a Year 12 student gave up her position in the school team so Kathryn could represent the school at the IYPT Australia Challenge. The team won earning her a position in the Australian Team. This was repeated three years in a row and Kathryn represented Australia 3 times at IYPT, captaining the team that became World Champions in 2007.
After graduating from school in 2008, Kathryn has returned to IYPT as a Team Leader in 2009 and will be an Independent Juror in 2010.
After leaving school in November 2008, Kathryn has completed her Honours Degree in Physics and is joining the Perimeter Institute's Masters of Science program in Canada later this year as part of her PhD.
Kathryn has a unique talent, but many of my students involved with IYPT have studied Physics and Engineering at University. Other Australian students have moved on to Cambridge, MIT and Havard.
IYPT makes a difference!
